Embarcadero Sets Sail

16th July, 2007: Posted by glpease in Pipe & Tobacco News, Product News

Today is the official release of Embarcadero. As with any new release, I’m really excited. Of course, it’ll still be a few days before it finds its way to the retailers, and then to the customers, but some of you will have yours in hand by the end of the week, and I can’t wait to hear what you think about this new tobacco.

For those who are interested in some early impressions (based on the prototype), check his review out. And, here’s another one posted by Talonr1701 in the Smoker’s Forums. Sail on!

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Smokin’!

15th July, 2007: Posted by glpease in Pipe Sightings

I’ve always admired Stevie’s amazing bluesmanship, and had often heard rumours he was a pipe smoker. At least we have one thing in common. So, here’s a little video clip of Stevie not only smokin’ his trademark Strat, but puffing a briar whilst doing so. Fifty-eight seconds into the clip, he demonstrates that he’s just as comfortable with the pipe as he was with the guitar. Thanks to Black Seamus onĀ  Smoker’s Forum for the link. I just wish it was longer.

Author Alan Sillitoe’s Life as a Smoker

Alan Sillitoe, at 79, has decided to cut his smoking down to 10 pipes per day. Here, courtesy of the BBC News online from 14th June, is a lovely short audio slide-show of life as a smoker. The photos are wonderful.

The times, they are a-changing.

Embarcadero - Release Date Set

6th July, 2007: Posted by glpease in Pipe & Tobacco News

Embarcadero will begin wending its way to the retailers’ shelves starting on 16th July. That’s just ten days from now, though it will take a couple days to get from NC to wherever it is you like to buy stuff, so make it two weeks for most places, and you’ll finally be able to get a tin or ten of this new blend. I’ve been on about it since April or May, so it’s about time. I’ve written a more lengthy article in the Briar and Leaf Chronicles for those who like to read more than just the blurbs.

Also, Neill Archer Roan has posted something today in his blog, A Passion for Pipes. Neill always has some interesting observations, and his blog is always well worth the read.
